There's no "bad" time of year in Bali, but there is a very different one. The island runs on two seasons — dry and wet — and the month you pick affects everything: weather, prices, crowds and wave height. Here's a rundown of when to go and which area suits your goals. Two seasons: dry and wet
The dry season runs roughly from April to October: less rain, lower humidity, and reliably sunny. The wet season is roughly November to March: short but heavy tropical downpours, higher humidity and lusher greenery. Rain in the wet season tends to fall in the afternoon and pass quickly.
- Dry season: the best weather, but higher prices and more tourists, especially in July–August.
- Wet season: cheaper and greener, fewer crowds, but a higher chance of rain and rougher seas.
- Shoulder season (April–May, September–October): often the best balance of weather, prices and crowd levels.

Waves, surf and crowds
In the dry season, the west coast (Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu) gets the best surf conditions — hence the influx of visitors. In the wet season, more spots work on the east coast. If calm swimming matters more, look at the sheltered beaches of Sanur and Nusa Dua.
How to save on dates
- Avoid the July–August peak and the New Year dates if budget matters.
- Aim for the shoulder season: the weather is still good, and prices and crowd levels are lower.
- Book accommodation early for the dry season, and more flexibly for the wet season.
- Check local holidays and Nyepi (the Day of Silence): the island operates differently on these dates.
April–May and September–October are Bali's quiet sweet spot.
