Aeroflot Launches Direct Moscow–Phu Quoc Flights

A wide-body airliner approaches a tropical island with palm trees and a turquoise lagoon

From 15 October 2026, Aeroflot is flying direct from Moscow to the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc — twice a week, on a wide-body Airbus A330. It's the carrier's third Vietnam route after Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang, and for travellers heading to Phu Quoc it's the first time a direct flight skips a connection through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. For an overview of the island and what to do there, see our Vietnam guide.

What launched on 15 October

Flights operate from Sheremetyevo on an Airbus A330 in two cabin classes — economy and business. The schedule is fixed: departures from Moscow on Thursdays and Sundays, with the return flight from Phu Quoc on Mondays and Fridays. The route was officially announced in advance, back in late August, but commercial service only started on 15 October — meaning flights are now actually operating, not just announced.

Why Phu Quoc, not Nha Trang or Ho Chi Minh City

Until now, Aeroflot's only direct Vietnam routes were to Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang (the latter flown from several cities — Moscow, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok). Phu Quoc is a resort island in the Gulf of Thailand that has been growing in popularity with Russian travellers alongside Nha Trang and Da Nang over the past couple of years, and until now reaching it directly from Moscow meant charter flights or other carriers. A regular, two-class flight from the national flag carrier widens the choice specifically for travellers flying straight to the island rather than combining it with a stopover in another Vietnamese city.

Two flights a week isn't much, but for a direct non-stop route it's a workable minimum: the schedule lets you plan a one-to-two-week trip, flying out on the weekend and returning early the following week.

What it means if you're planning a trip to Phu Quoc

A direct flight removes an extra connection and saves travel time compared with routing through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi — especially noticeable on shorter 7–10 day trips. Compare Phu Quoc with other Vietnamese resorts and neighbouring countries in our destination catalog, and check current schedules and fares for this and other routes to the region in the Airlines section. If you're still deciding between several Vietnamese cities, our overview of regional climate across the country is worth a look: Phu Quoc sits in the south and follows the same dry season as Ho Chi Minh City.
